![]() Now I have a couple questions to ask of Sonic Retro. One more note here: I am still investigating the JASRAC search engine, so I will be updating this list periodically for any new information about the Japanese copyrights to Sonic music. WM serves as a music publisher and producer for Sega's music. From what I've researched, Sega doesn't actually own Wave Master. At least, under the Wave Master label.īefore you ask, you're probably wondering "Isn't Wave Master part of Sega or something?" Well. The people who actually made the music work, however, do. In most records listed for each individual work, Sega Enterprises (or what would be in its official Japanese Katakana: セガ or セガ・エンタープライゼス) is not among the right-holders to the songs.Īllow me to make a few examples here (Please note that I am NOT going to list every single one of each individual's works, I have time for other stuff).Ĭlick to expand.Upon closer examination, I have discovered that, so far, according to the song records in the database, Sega does not actually hold the rights to most of the game music for post-Sonic Adventure games, including Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, and perhaps beyond. Under the column, " Right Holder (or 権利者)" of each record online, lists the right-holder(s) to the work. Also out of curiosity, I clicked a few records on the database (specifically under "JUN SENOUE" and "FUMIE KUMATANI" as artists, for example). As you can see, in the Author (著作者) and Artist (アーティスト) categories, Sega is not shown in any of them. Out of curiosity, using a Japanese search engine they have here, I entered " Sonic Adventure" in the Title (作品タイトル) category, and it brought up dozens of results. They have a huge database of Japanese music copyrights which span to music CDs, records, movie soundtracks, Anime soundtracks, and even game music. ![]() There's so much I want to go over I don't know where to start, so I apologize if the paragraph is a little sloppy.įirst off, there is a Japanese copyright collection society called the " Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers" ( JASRAC, for short), that documents and protects copyright work for Japanese music artists. ![]() Hello, Sonic Retro! Yesterday, on IRC, I shared some information with some of the people in charge of the Wiki here (specifically Andlabs, who recommended that I bring this to Retro's attention) concerning the actual rights to the music of some of the Sonic games. ![]()
